Why you should explore Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo West National Park is located in southeastern Kenya, in Taita-Taveta County, and forms part of the larger Tsavo ecosystem together with Tsavo East National Park. It is slightly more rugged and scenic than Tsavo East, featuring a mix of volcanic hills, lava flows, springs, forests, and open savannah.

The park is famous for its dramatic landscapes and attractions such as Mzima Springs, where crystal-clear water flows from underground streams of Mount Kilimanjaro, creating a habitat for hippos, crocodiles, and fish that can be viewed from an underwater observation chamber. Another highlight is the Sheldrick Falls and the volcanic scenery around the Chyulu Hills nearby.

Tsavo West is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and many antelope species. However, due to its dense vegetation and hilly terrain, wildlife can sometimes be harder to spot compared to Tsavo East.

Before you go

Tourist visas can be bought in advance via the embassy or consulate in your country or simply purchased upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or at any overland border.

Photos are not required and a single entry tourist visa costs US$ 50 per person for up to 90 days stay in Uganda. If you are planning to combine Uganda with a visit to Rwanda or Kenya it is recommendable to request for the East African Tourist Visa instead of a single entry visa. This special visa costs US$100 per person and allows a 90-days multiple entry to Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. Regretfully, Tanzania is not (yet) a member of the East African community and therefore not part of this special visa arrangement.
