South West Rwanda
Nyungwe Forest National Park is located in the southwestern part of Rwanda, mainly in the districts of Rusizi and Nyamasheke near the border with Burundi and Lake Kivu.
It is one of Africa’s oldest and most biodiverse rainforests, covering dense montane and tropical forest. The park is best known for chimpanzee tracking, with several habituated groups, as well as other primates like colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and mangabeys.
Nyungwe is also famous for its canopy walkway, a suspended bridge that gives visitors a unique view above the forest. The park hosts over 300 bird species and many endemic plants and animals.
